Fill a sink full of cold water and ice and dunk your head under as many times as it takes.

Go for a run, as fast as you can.

Wear a rubber band on your wrist and ping it when you feel the need to cut (I do this sometimes even though it's 8 months since I last cut).

Warm bath? (Though this one doesn't do much for me)

Writing your thoughts down (don't read them back, tear them up after)

Scribbling on paper or ripping it up.

That's all I can think of for now. I'm not going to lecture you and say you shouldn't be self harming, but it worries me that you only want to 'temporarily stop' because you can't take sharp objects with you. Stopping SH takes a lot of hard work, but it's entirely possible to get there in the end.

I'll add more to this list later if I think of anything.

Is there anything I can do to temporarily stop my self from SH, I am going away, and think it will be hard to get sharp objects through security control. I have tried squezzing ice but that doesnt work, Is there any thing else, which would give me the same effect?

:hugs:

Here's some websites that might be helpful:

http://www.mirror-mirror.org/selfinj.htm (has a massive list of ways to stop the temptation)

Not that it's relevant to your question, or that I recommend it, but surely wherever you're going will have sharp things? Just seems like an odd reason to need to stop.. As for ways to avoid temptation, all the ways people have mentioned are good (especially going for a run). You could also try drawing on yourself where you'd normally cut in red ink as some sort of psychological trick. Also, seeing as you're going away, you could focus on the fact that you're going to be away from your usual cutting environment and the external triggers that make you cut, so you could think of it as a chance to not *need* to cut. Sorry I can't be of more help.

You need to consider what it is about self harming that you like. If its the colour of the blood, then drawing on yourself will work. If its the feeling of pain, then pushing yourself to go for a run, and breaking through the pain barrier will work better. If youre more like me and its the feel of the blood then a strong shower works well. Just an idea.

The girl i'm seeing at the moment told me she does this the other day. I'm a little confused it's something thats never made any sense to me, is there any way I can help her not to do it?

Hi
Thanks for all your suggestions, I will try some of them, and hope that they work. Hopefully one of them will work, as its only temporarily!
