I've never had a job before so have no clue how the application process works.
When you go into a shop, who is it you're supposed to speak to? I mean, you're not really supposed to just join a queue as you would normally, except when you get there you say "I'm not actually buying anything, but I was just wondering if you're hiring"... are you? That just sounds so awkward.
And the same applies for when you're handing over your CV. Are you supposed to just dump it with the person behind the till or what?

A lot of larger stores will do online applications now. Boots for example don't take in anything in store as they only do online applications. Smaller stores will most likely have a notice in the window saying that they are hiring. They will usually say to hand in your CV. I would ask for the manager if they are available as you will get the opportunity to talk with them as well which is useful.
