Have you thought to think that Heskey shouldn't have to be back defending on the edge of his own box?
I don't think hes ever claimed to be a defensive player, if the team as a whole kept possesion for longer than 5 passes we would have won.

King played brilliantly. James wasn't really to blame. Sure, for the penalty he should have stayed on his feet. But who's to say that henry wouldn't just go past him and score? Plus, James should never have been put in that place anyways! Stupid Gerrard!

A bit harsh, but I share the idea that he should be punished. There was no need to foul, there was 10 men between the ball and the goal, very unlikely they would score from that position.

James, why did he not move? Facing one of the best free kick takers in the world, he decided Zidane would hit it down the middle? Did he just not see it?

Should Rooney have passed? Should Silvestre have been sent off? Should Beckham have hit it into the top corner?
Nice goal by Lamps shame it counts for very little right now.

They've got to go in to that Switzerland game, more posititvely.

And Scholes needs to be rested. He hasn't scored for ages, he didn't have a good game. He needs to be dropped. Hargreaves should play in his place.

Heskey should be taken off the bench.

Line-up for next game should be: James, G Neville, Terry (even though King was superb) Campbell, A Cole, Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard, Hargreaves, Owen, Rooney

Owen needs to pull his socks up - because Vassell did more than he did when he came on, and was only a substitute.

Blame it on the whole squad. They clearly had the whole game to score more goals and shouldn't have thought a 1-0 lead would be good enough. Against teams like France, a 1-0 lead is never enough. France deserved to score after all of that attacking play. It just happened to occur in stoppage time that's all.

That's actually one of the first sensible things you've said all day.

With regards to who to blame in the match, its individuals who let the team down, and not the whole team letting us down.

England played rubbish, they hardly attacked the whole game i don't think they even had more than one proper shot on goal. England can only score from set-pieces now that Owen is so heavily marked and doesn't receive great service. James didn't do anything wrong, he wouldn't have been able to have seen the ball until it was too late. The whole squad was out of shape, they were all tired by the end of the first half and they paled in comparison to the fitness of the french. England just didn't deserve to win.

Scotland's build up has been a bit quiet.

When are they playing in the tournament?

They're not in it, i think that accounts for their quiet build up.

I don't think you can say they didn't try to score anymore goals..cos England actually won a penalty...that..if beckham had put it away...would#ve been 2-0...

Don't Blame beckham. It was that idiot who allowed Henry to be alone in the box alone with the goalie

Regardless of who cocked up, cos there are lots of people you could blame, loads of "if only's" and plenty of occasions where the game could have been saved, France were able to win because they've got the best player in world football. When was the last time you saw Beckham convert a free-kick that good for England on a first attempt? Zidane sent the keeper the wrong way with his penalty, even if Jams had guessed right it would have been tough to get because it was powerful and well placed. They had two chances, both set pieces, and their Zidane was cool enough and good enough to produce.
Beckham'd penalty was crap, but all credit to Zidane for getting france 3 points they did not deserve.

They're both to blame......Gerrard's one mistake in the match cost England the match...and apart from the cross for Lampard's goal..Beckham looked quite subdued throughout the match...fair enough he was defending a lot of the time....but even when england went forward..he didn't look the same player he has been in recent years.
