I've written just about all of my essay except for the introduction. I honestly have no clue as to how to begin it without sounding cliche.

Lots of my friends have used rhetorical questions and quotes. Is this a good idea?

I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some examples of introductions.

    Thank you

Admission tutors don't read statements. Don't worry about it.

Actually I was complimented on mine by a university. And some put more weight on it than others.

I wouldn't use a quote or a question unless it's really well thought out. I used a question in mine but it was something very specific in psychology that I was interested in and I used psychological terminology to show off a bit. Maybe start with something you found interesting in a subject related book?

Yes, what I meant was that they just skim it and don't bother with it too much. If you've got the grades you'll get the offer. (Unless you're applying for something like medicine dentistry etc)

Yeah, sadly that's how it is most of the time.

To be honest starting with a cliche isn't much of an issue (it isn't great either) but starting with a quote is a waste of space.

Don't start with a quote (it's not personal to you and it will have been used before anyway) or a rhetorical question (it doesn't add anything). Instead, focus on explaining (briefly) why psychology interests you (relate it to what you talk about later)
