I got an A in my AS history last year, on OCR doing the Cold War and Gladstone and Disraeli, and this is basically what I found worked for me last year and at the beginning of A2. I type up my notes/hand write them and summarize them as much as possible so I don't have so much to remember. Then I will print out as many past papers as I have time to do, and I go through planning them. I don't actually write them out as this takes up a lot of my time, and normally you will learn the technique needed through in class assessments and essays set as homework by the teachers. This may not work for everyone, but it is what I have found works for me.

The first step would be getting the course textbook from your library!
