Anyone have any help, approaching a question about an inmate who had brain damage after getting attacked during a prison riot, looking to prove duty of care and negligence of prison system.

if the inmate was an active participant in the riot then they have forfeited the duty of care of the authorities.
if the inmate was not involved but was attacked as part of the riot ( traditionally sex offenders are assaulted as part of prison riots ) then he/she would be fully entitled to the normal protections and recompense for injuries.
