I'm starting my primary school placement tomorrow, one week in ks1 and one in ks2. Quite nervous but excited and not sure what to expect. Any advice on what to make notes on? I have been waiting to do my UCAS application until I have completed ten days in a school because I'd like to write about my experiences in a school in my statement.

It's not too scary once you actually go in, just try to get involved and talk to the students, help them out that sort of thing basically act as a teaching assistant. As for notes, write down things like how they deal with good behaviour (reward systems), how they deal with bad behaviour (warnings etc.), different ways the teacher teaches, for example, do they use whiteboards, discuss with peers, work as a class etc. Also, note down anything else you see that is interesting and how you could use these methods in your lessons if you go in to teaching, but as long as you go in and enjoy yourself that's all that really matters. Good Luck x

How did your first week go? What sorts of things did you pick up?

Really good I've done a week in KS1 and a week in KS2 and it's made me realise that I would prefer to work in ks1 so I will choose the younger age range pathway on a course
Main things I picked up were about how to handle the behaviour really
I just have really enjoyed it and made me want to get onto the PGCE even more!
