I have an interview with the NHS working as a Support worker for people with learning disabilities.
I don't have any experience in care I'm currently working in Retail and I want to get out of it, have any of you worked as a learning disabilities support worker before? How is this role like?

    Hi Icecream!

It's very rewarding to support those with learning difficulties, but it can be very challenging. Unfortunately some people (I prefer to say people, not residents, patients or service users) can become agressive whether they mean it or not, so you need to be able to remain calm and professional - not to say that your own safety isn't paramount; if you ever feel unsafe you can remove yourself from a situation.

Yes, it can be long shifts and blah blah blah, but I forget about it all when I see a person smile or accomplish their goals as independently as they can.

Feel free to PM me; I've been a domicillary carer for three years and now work as an agency support worker.
