UCAS personal statement and no work experience, HELP!! Social Work degree watch

    • Thread Starter

    Hey guys,
I am writing my ucas personal statement and I have never had any work experience apart from the 1 week at school in year 10 at a primary school and a few months working on a market stall in 2013. I had my daughter in 2013 and due to personal reasons I have not been able to work. I am currently doing an Access course in social science and I am applying to do a social work degree at either Hertfordshire or Bedford. I have been searching for a job, whether it be paid or voluntary, for a few months but so far I'm not having any luck. Will this reduce my chances of getting into uni or not? I'm really worrying.

It will certainly make it more difficult I'm afraid, as something like social work is vocational and therefore you need to show two things:

    1. That you know what you are letting yourself in for (so discussing the role and what skills are needed). You can do this through (ideally) shadowing, or by talking to Social Workers
    2. That you have those skills to make a good Social Worker. You can do this through stuff not related to SW tho.
Do you think parents should charge rent?
