I'm applying for biochemistry and one of the things I touched on in my statement was bioethics. Is it a good idea for me to include my own opinion?

Yes, be critical of what you read - makes for a good PS.

It's a very good idea to include opinions. It shows you engage with debate and actually think critically about what you want to study. It would look far better than someone who just wrote about something for the sake of it and didn't provide an opinion.

However, you do need to balance it to make sure it doesn't sound like an essay or a pure opinion piece
