I have tried to do some research on it but it's all too technical. Can someone explain how it's paid and what the payment options are? Is it paid weekly, monthly.... Are the costs shared if you have roommates? How much does accommodation cost on average per year? I

It's usually paid termly. When you move in, they will tell you how many weeks / how much of a lump sum they want you to pay.

That's for student halls, btw. Might be different if you live in a student house.

It really varies. If you stay in university owned halls in first year then there is usually some flexibility about how you pay- I had the choice between paying it all up front, monthly or termly to coincide with student finance payments. When you rent with a private landlord they usually specify how they want you to pay- the first landlord I rent from wanted payments quarterly, my last landlord wanted them monthly. As far as average accommodation costs go, it really varies. Accomodation in halls goes from £2,500-£9000 depending on where in the country you are and whether you go for extras like catered, ensuite or not. If you share a room the cost is lower but you are given an individual bill. All accomodation prices are on university accomodation websites.
