So beyond the group of lions - common definitions come to:
a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired.

the consciousness of one's own dignity.

having an excessively high opinion of oneself or one's importance.

a person or thing that is the object or source of a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction.
Does anyone have a different definition of pride?

    (Original post by Catholic perspective)
Theologically speaking, the term pride is used to describe an excessive or unjustified love for oneself and one’s accomplishments. Colloquially speaking, pride is used to signify pleasure or satisfaction in those things or persons that reflect well on a person or those related to that person. In the colloquial sense, when pride is justified and not excessive, there is nothing wrong with being proud of oneself or of others.

It is more spiritually edifying to cultivate a sense of gratitude rather than pride, particularly when it concerns those things that cannot be credited entirely to one’s own accomplishment. In the examples you gave, it would be better to say that one is grateful for the graces to be Catholic and to have had a successful marriage. Gratitude fosters a sense of humility because it focuses on others—such as God and neighbor—rather than on oneself.
    How do you view/describe pride?

Is pride something we need to have, should have, or should stay away from?

I would say pride in moderation is a good thing - pride in your achievements can push you to do more, and to put effort into what you do. Like most things though, in excess it can have negative affects - for instance, if you're too proud to accept help or advice when you need it.

If you removed pride from yourself i can imagine yourself being a better person. Yet without emotion we are no longer human and there is no motivation to do something with your life. Pride is needed to fuel your ego. This helps most people build confidence and power. However some people lack are at the opposite spectrum of pride and it can also drive people such as failing test and feeling inadequate as to try better.
Overall pride is an emotion and emotion is something we don;t yet understand but i think pride should be removed( not no pride but just inbetween in a balance)

yes, its inability to subject yourself and admit that you are not all that.

Some people think of themselves highly than they ought to think.

I think pride is a good quality - one that should be encouraged.

Could one just be happy for their own achievements, instead of prideful?
