ok so i'm currently on a temporary contract at work up until christmas. I don't really know the rules when it comes to being too sick to go to work i just know you need to ring up at least an hour before you start. I've just found out from my doctor that i've got tonsillitis and it's pretty contagious at the moment. I have work in a few hours and i don't know whether to ring in sick or not. Does this lower my chance of being kept on after christmas?

It's possible, yes, but you can't go in with tonsillitis. Your health is more important.

obviously don't call in sick for a bit of a sniffle but if you are properly ill you don't have a choice and if your employer doesn't understand that you probably don't want to work for them long term

give them as much notice as possible and then try and make it up to them when you come back i.e. offer to cover some overtime next time someone else is ill and show them you will be a helpful member of staff
