'He used to work there' in German - is 'dort' the right word for 'there' or is 'da' better? Or is there another answer (dorthin??)

In general, da is used to refer to a location that is further away, so I guess 'da' could work. Really, though, the two can be used interchangeably, and I doubt anyone will catch you out on that.

Dorthin, I think, is used only when there is movement involved, i.e. going somewhere, so don't use it in this context.

Nope, use dort, or dort drueben to mean "over there". The explanation of dorthin is correct though

'Dort' is better. Although, you could use interchangeably. In this particular sentence 'dort' sounds correct. It's more formal.

    It's definitely not 'dorthin'.
