i'm self teaching M4 and there is very little that i can find on the internet for it. OCR hardly ever releases past papers on the internet which is reeeeally annoying! my college library is quite good though - i'd recommend looking for some older mechanics books that might cover the M4-5 topics, newer ones don't seem to. maybe an introductory undergraduate mechanics textbook could be useful. the library is your friend!

As far as I know, apart from the Heinemann textbooks and the Edexcel past papers, the best resource available would be:

B. Jefferson and T. Beadsworth, Further Mechanics, (Oxford University Press, 2001). ISBN: 978-0-19-914738-0

It's pretty definitive and can be used for all boards. I think it starts from M3 and goes up to M5 but you'd have to check that.

P.S. physicsgirlie, you might want to try this out too!

Dharma - really helpful thanks!
I'm off to order it now and send +ve rep your way
Did you do the M4 and M5 exams? I've read a post that claimed M4 was harder than M5 but in my opinion M5 is much, much harder than M4. I've cracked M4 but need some help with M5

Cheers.

Erm..., I'm actually in my AS year, it's just that I'm doing Further Maths, so I've already bought my copy of this book for next year. I remember reading that post and it was James who said that. He's very knowledgeable and nice, so that's who to speak to if you want to. If you have any questions though, there are plenty of brilliant mathematicians on this forum (including James and excluding myself!) who'll be willing to help.
I also need M4 resources and am finding it very difficult to find any. I don't particularly want to go out and buy a book that isn't really targeted towards M4. Even the Heinemann book is pretty awful, and past papers are very few...

Considering how few people take the exam, I doubt you will find any good resources. The Heinemann textbook, and as many past papers as you can find, are your best bet.

Yes, I've noticed this as well... Although I'm not doing A-levels I have some papers, I notice 5 papers with markschemes 02-04 for edexcel on my harddrive - are there any of these you miss and want, just say so and I'll send them to you
Nah, I'm ok thanks. Those are the ones I have. I need something that's not official past papers - my teacher will feed me all the 2002 onwards ones anyway, but I need Solomon papers or something.

I know. :p: That's the problem.

Ironically, but perfectly understandably, it's always the harder modules that have the fewest resources available.

When I did M4 I just used the heinemann book. For past papers, I used the edexcel past papers and some specimen papers as well. I managed to get an A in it mainly by doing all the exercise questions and a lot of the review exercise questions.

A.J Sadler and D.W.S Thorning - Understanding Mechanics.

Thats what I've used for Advanced Higher Mechanics, it says on the back it covers the A-Level syllabus primarily.
yeah, i have that one, but it hardly covers any M4
I have that too, my teacher gave me it, but again it's not really targeted. I could go and look through it for all the M4 work... or I could just as well be lazy and not do so. :p:

Thanks anyway. May have a look if I get desperate.

I teaching these modules to myself. Does anyone have any resource suggestions apart from the Edexcel past papers and the Heinemann books?
I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who has done or is doing these exams.
Many thanks.

I have a Facebook page called M5 A-Level Mechanics where I posted all the resourses I could find.
