Is it right for an employer to give a formal warning if an employee has a serious accident outside work and gets taken to hospital? If that employee was unable to call their boss because they were unconscious, could the boss say I don't care someone should have informed me.

Sounds like your boss doesn't like you. Start looking for a new job before they give you notice for something stupid.

    Short answer - no!

Is it a private company? As this is the type of nonsense that happens when the boss has no one to answer to.

Dispute it via the right channels, but ultimately, start job hunting and get outta there.

If the accident is down to your negligence then there is a possibility they can give you a formal warning with no issues.
