    Hi,

I need to make a decision regarding my subject choices. I am planning to study veterinary medicine in a year.

I am currently taking the following subjects:

    HL Chem
    HL Bio
    HL English
    SL Math
    SL Geo
    SL language A German

I have the option to change my language A German to language B German. If I would do this I would have a higher IB score by about 2 - 3 points.

w/ a bilingual diploma taking language A German I would most likely get a total score of around 35 - 37

w/ a normal diploma taking language B German I would most likely get a total score of around 37 - 40

My question is, what is more valued by universities, a higher IB total score or a bilingual diploma?

    Thanks.

    It depends.

Some universities select primarily on HL subject scores (in a similar way to A-levels), some total IB score and some a combination of the two. I am not aware of any selection bias towards bilingual individuals

You need to contact the admissions departments of the vet schools you plan on applying to to get their official line on the matter.

As a general rule I would recommend A-levels over the IB (although I appreciate that it is probably too late for you). The vet schools that look at total scores or a combination of HL score AND total score will normally ask for higher entrance requirements than your A-level counterparts,
