    Would anybody be kind enough to help me understand how to approach this question please.

    If the bank density of limestone is 2500 kg/m3, with a bulking factor of 1.7 andthe effect of compaction will reduce the volume by 20%. Calculate the tonnage required to fill a120,000 m3 embankment.

    Since it asks for tons, you should convert the density to 2.5 tons/m3. Then multiply by 1.7 to find the bulking volume, after that, find 80% of the answer to find the compaction volume. The final step is to divide 120,000m3 by your answer to get how many tons are needed to fill the embankment.
