    Random question for your Friday...

You wake up tomorrow with one new ability. Either:

You can speak every human language in the world
    or
You can talk to the animals (Dr Dolittle-style)

    Which would you rather?

This was a tough one, especially the potential risk if it turns out animals don't really have a lot to say...

BUT imagine being able to reason with a shark or bear. Or ask a goose what their problem is. Or being told to eff off by your cat when you ask her to fetch your slippers.

Well as the saying goes, ''If a man and a lion could speak the same tongue they would have nothing to talk about''. That said I think I could relate to sleeping all day and eating too much red meat

I'd still rather be able to speak all languages though. Well at least a few dozen of the major ones.

Ohhhhh I really want to talk to the animals, but being to speak every language would be amazing.

Hmm. I also kind of enjoy those arm flapping conversations you have with people when neither of you can understand the other. :beard:

Animals 100% Imagine how much closer you could be with your pet(s)!? :excited:

A real life Doctor Dolittle, you could open a pet therapy center and spend your days chatting with the animals and making sure they're happy.. or consulting at zoos and farms. How awesome!

Speaking to animals would be literally the most useless ability.

Yeah and you can't have them with animals really. Most of them don't have arms.

I picked animals because you can ask people to translate human language, but no one can speak to animals.

    This is a silly poll.

    (a) I can talk to animals now. Sadly, most don't understand me.

    (b) I can already be understood most of the planet. I speak English.

So I already have both those things.

I'd not want to be able to talk to cats or dogs. I don't want to know what they're thinking when I'm all "Awwwlookit'shakitty! A kitty! Whatcha doin' kitty?"

    Human all day!
I can already talk to animals - understanding what they say back is the problem.

Do you know why I would have the ability to speak every human language over the language of animals? Because animals aren't destroying the planet, it's people that do that. I would use that power to appeal to what is left of the benevolence of humanity. You could choose to speak the language of animals, indeed you would be infintely more content and peaceful, but I could not live with myself knowing that I didn't try to alter the impending doom of the human species by using a skill for change as powerful as that.

    Animals!

Speaking to animals would be a supernatural power, whereas speaking human languages is possible, even if it's quite challenging

I'm also less socially awkward with animals, so my skills would be put to good use, I'm not good at speaking to human strangers
