Specsavers - few questions

I am applying for NHS vouchers to help me fund a pair of glasses.

I estimate this will take about 2 weeks before I get my vouchers, however much discount they may give me.

Do Specsavers allow students to get their 30% student discount and also allow you to use NHS vouchers?

I don't see why not - the vouchers aren't some sort of offer, and the 30% they do is standard if you show your NUS card.

Any ideas?

No, I don't think they do. Most places do voucher or discount I think.
Though I personally have never delt with specsavers as I prefer the little family run opticians at home as I hate to think of the little guy loosing out to a big corp...

I found this on their webbie...

Cannot be used with any other offer.

Well NHS vouchers aren't an offer of any sort.

They are simply a way of payment.

Hmm, perhaps then...just push it with them?

I shall!

I mean, I don't really know how they can say no - The vouchers are used as a replacement for cash. But I bet they can somehow back out of offering it.

But really seeings as vouchers are a replacement for cash (so they should be seen as cash to the cashier) they shouldn't have a problem?

I think I will ring a few of their stores tomorrow, because I assume people are going to just say no even if they aren't sure.

I guess so, the best thing you can do is just keep asking, asking and asking. If the jobsworth who you pay can't tell you ask to see the manager! good luck

Hey! I ordered my new glasses from specsavers on sunday and they gave me the nhs voucher discount there and then! The frames with lenses were priced at £75 but with the NHS voucher they were only £15 (Bargain!!!)

With the nhs voucher if you chose frames with single vision lenses that are priced at £39 you get them free, if they are £55 you get them for £10 i think and this goes up to frames that are £125 you pay a lot lot less!!!

You can also use the NHS voucher if you use the 2 pairs for the price of one, but in that case i think you can onyl use the voucher to a value of £35 or something like that!!!

I don't think you can use any other discounts - I am at college and wasn't offered student discount!

Hope that helps! x x x

I'm pretty sure it will be fine, I've always had the NHS vouchers applied to my order, and used the student discount at the same time the last couple of times. And last time I didn't even use my NUS card, I used a connexions card.
Hi,

Yes they do accept both.
Work there at wk/ends

if you're a student, you're eligible for an nhs voucher?! i thought that was only if you're under 18?

also, did u say students get 30% off when they show their nus card, cos im needing new glasses and want contacts, so that would be awesome!! on the other hand, if i wait til work make me permanent staff, i get the cost of eye exam half off! wahoo!!
Yes if you are a student under 18 then automatically you get the voucher.
If you are a student and fill out a HC1/2 form you may also be eligible.

Also you may qualify for other things, such as;

*suffering from diabetes
*considered at risk by glaucoma by a opthamologist
*require complex lenses (i.e -/+ 10 dioptospheres).

Hope this helps...

ah poo, i'm 19 nearly 20 and have not heard of this form you speak of..where can i get one? ta very muchly!! xx
Well, you can ask at your post office. But if your local post office is anything like mine there is always a long queue!!! So I would head for your nearest specsavers branch and ask for a HC1 (or it might be HC2...they'll know what you mean anyway!) form.

ty sooo much you've been a great help! i'll do it on my lunch break tomorrow-yay!! contacts for summer ball here i come!!!!
I went to Specsavers on Sunday, paid with a voucher. I got a £125 pair of designer glasses for £30. I don't think you'd need the NUS card discount as well?

In any case, I thought you only got a voucher if you were 16, 17 or 18 and still in full time education?

Glad to know i have been a help to you
However, if you are eligible it is only for spex not contact lenses unfortunately.
But, they're may be free contact lens trials on at the moment and the contact lenses themselves arent overly expensive.

The HC1 form you will also have to send off (you know how forms can be a rigmarole sometimes) and wont be able to use until you get a response from the assessing body.

Do you wear CL's at the moment?
