So I've been offered work experience for 3 months in an accountancy practise. My family are telling me I leave it and look for a part time job in tesco etc or within retail instead. In my work experience I'll be doing excel tasks, basic bookkeeping, accounts payroll and data entry and it's only three months so I can look for a job after it plus I'll have experience to look for one within finance. But they want me to leave it once I get a part time job
What do you think?

I personally think you would gain more from working in an accountancy practice .Do you want to do accountancy at university? If so this would definitely be fantastic when applying because it shows dedication to work at a firm for 3 months. Also it shows your eager to learn the basics of your course and would definitely provide an advantage. In addition, it would give you an insight into the life of an account and they can answer any questions you have.

Is the work experience paid? I think it's definitely the better option regardless but your parents may be worried that it'll be harder for you to find a job in retail in Jan/Feb after the Christmas rush is over.

Perhaps you could ask whether you can start on a later date?

Can I ask why your parents are pushing you to get a part time job? Depending on your age, aren't you old enough to make your own decisions rather than have your parents push you around and such?
I would personally keep the work experience, as has been posted before, you may end up with a job in the company afterwards or another company, with admittedly more money than you would be making in retail.
