    Hi,
I'm having difficulty choosing between whether to do Spanish or Sociology at A Level. I have decided that I will definitely do Biology, ICT and History. I'm not sure what I want to do after sixth form and I think I will enjoy the subjects an equal amount, however I am leaning towards sociology. Is it a slight push doing both sociology and ICT if I want to get into a Russel Group university, as I know they are not keen on too many 'soft' subjects? Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    Hey!
Personally i think that if you are leaning more towards sociology, then go for sociology. i think sociology is a very strong subject and is good to have. i am currently stuck in the same situation as you. Go with your gut feeling. Good Luck x

No problem. I also forgot to mention that it depends on what you got for those subjects in your GCSE's if you did take them. i would pick the subject in which you got the highest grade in. if you got the same for both then i would do personally think about the different careers that both subjects have to offer and base your decision on that.

If you like both and want to get into a Russel Group university then I would recommend choosing Spanish. Languages are impressive to have and the combination of Biology, history and Spanish will keep many options open for the future.

Thank you! Would you say that they still discriminate certain subjects even if they say they don't on their website?

Hi I think a Russel group university would prefer Spanish as learning a language is very hard however saying that just choose whatever you feel is best. My advice to you on how to choose your a-level subjects is

    1) Have a few colleges in mind (don't focus on one college, I did and I didn't get into the college I wanted for one unfortunate reason :_( )

    2) Secondly do some 'deep' research into your chosen subjects so what do the subjects, so what you would do in the subject and how hard is it (based of several of people) as some people find different things hard so Try to build up an average picture (i hope that makes sense) also look at what people go into after there a levels so eg people who have chosen similar subjects or what a level subjects people choose for specific career

    3) Do think about university so I don't know what I'm doing either BUT i have several od ideas/options that I know will take me to hopefully something decent.

    4) I actually had a lot more I was going to say but I can't think of much now sorry but in your free time there is always something you could be doing/thinking about, it took me ages to finally choose what I wanted and due to unfortunate circumstances and I didn't get everything I wanted but I got 3/4 so I'm still good as I only intend to study 3 full a-levels anyway.

So yeh make little fact files anything because what I do then is sum up pro's and cons and basically every option I can currently think of and then choose , The reason I said continually keep reviewing your options is you might change your mind a lot I know I did. So thats what I would do if your struggling to choose and remember to choose something you will actually like doing.

I chose Physics, Maths , Chemistry, Graphics also I would recommend doing 2 sciences maybe to keep your options open a little bit more and I really like science :P but yeah do take your time thinking about this just as your advice to start revising now for your gcses the more time you use the better or best decision you will make, so Yeh I didn't write everything I wanted to but hope this helps

Also i forgot Russel Group have there list of preferred and non preferred subects if that helps and there is an app called Bestcourse4me which might help you see what a levels combine well with as it does help thinking about university choices too.

Thank you so much for going so into depth with your advice, I'm definitely going to do lots of research on my subjects now and decide what I'm doing from there! Thank you again, I hope everything works out for you! X
