This email is doing the rounds at the moment across all UK medical schools.

There is a link to sign a letter opposing the new contract and a BMA pledge to sign as well. This is important not only because of the impact on patient safety, but incoming FY1's and future doctors will be worst affected by the new contract facing around a 20% pay cut compared to this years FY1's.

    Please consider signing.

    "Dear Colleague,

I would like to draw your attention to a letter currently being circulated amongst medical students in support of the Junior Doctors in their continued fight against the unfair, unsafe contract being forced through by Jeremy Hunt.

As we're sure you're aware, the BMA are currently balloting Junior Doctors on industrial action. Jeremy Hunt has made a last minute offer to maintain pay progression at the same levels for all those currently in Specialty Training until 2019.

However, under this offer those who would accept a new contract from 2016 onwards (i.e. current Foundation Year doctors and medical students) will face a pay cut of approximately 20% compared to current Foundation Year rates. As medical students are not being balloted we have been given little say in a matter that will hugely affect all of us. This is a cynical attempt by Mr Hunt to avert the strike by targeting those with less of a voice. We may not be able to take part in industrial action, but by signing the letter and pledge below we can send a message to Mr Hunt and the public that we are united in opposition to this unjust and dangerous contract. It is vital that as many people sign the letter as soon as possible so that the media and public hear our voice.

The letter can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1t_S...T5-x0/viewform

The pledge of solidarity with the BMA can be found here: http://e-activist.com/ea-action/acti...lient.id=1742...

Please sign both and share with your fellow medical students.

    United we are stronger!
