Paying for flights in increments watch

Basically, we're going to America this summer. I have a part time job so I will pay for some of the holiday. Last year I paid for my flight which was one way Business Class and Economy on the way back.

This year I was looking and there is a flight for £1000 return Business Class. I have no way of paying that right now, (I only have £300 saved up), but I can put away £200 a month so that it will be paid off by January.

I have asked my parents if they will let me do it on their credit card but they won't listen to me. I am in university so they think I can't afford it but I actually can, I budget all my money carefully so I wouldn't put myself in this position if I couldn't. I rang up STA Travel but as soon as the woman heard Business Class she changed her tone and started to push me away - annoying because I can afford to pay up for it but whatever.

I even suggested a 0% credit card to my parents but they still think that it is a gymic and that there will be some sort of extra cost (there isn't). It just annoys me that they won't let me do that.

I think that £1,000 return in flat bed business class is an amazing deal and I don't want to miss out on it, I do not want to miss out on the deal as there is only 2 seats left at this price!

Is there any way that I can book this flight myself and pay it up in instalments besides a credit card? I mean I could save up until January and have the money then it's just that the seats will probably be gone and i'll only end up going one way Business Class again.

I wish my parents would give me the benefit of the doubt!

Please do tell me the name of this kind bank who are willing to provide credit for no charge whatsoever.

Halifax, you only have to deposit money every month which I will be doing.

Ah yes, 0% on purchases for x months and then fees after that, so pretty standard.

Your parents have a point though. Taking on entirely unnecessary debt to fund a luxury purchase that you can most certainly live without is not exactly the most financially responsible thing you can do. I'd go as far as to call it fairly stupid.

It's not really a luxury purchase though. I've done it before (2x), I can afford to pay for it. I would just prefer to fly Business Class both ways and I need to do it in advance to do so!

Anyway, can you think of any alternative methods of doing this?

Where in the US are you wanting to go? Airlines have pretty regular sales. Have a look at http://www.headforpoints.com/ and learn to use https://matrix.itasoftware.com/ and you should be able to find the flights you want. Flying from Dublin (rather than the UK) will reduce the taxes you have to pay.

If you let me know airports and dates I can some up with a price using ITA matrix.

Chicago and New York, I talked it through with them again and I've decided to wait until January. Hopefully the prices haven't changed much.

And yes the flights were from Dublin with United.

You can get to NYC for £935 next summer. This fare sale finishes 17 Nov though but there will be another sale along soon. Like I said, learn to use ITA Matrix and you'll be able to find these fares for yourself. Good luck!

What is the matrix? It looks good. I don't mind paying £1,000 but i'll only fly from Dublin due to preclearance. I don't like going back on myself to get to America when we're alot closer.
