I really enjoy english literature and i know i would like to get a degree in it, but i'm still completely clueless as to what i would like to do after that so if anybody can just tell me all the jobs/careers/work experience i could do with an english lit degree or what i could go on to study after completing my degree? Thanks!

It would take too long to list all the options for someone with an English Literature degree post uni as many doors are still open. Without further study you could go into some areas of finance/banking (not all want numerical degrees), the civil service, charity work, business management, publishing to name but a few areas. With further study you could go into teaching, law or journalism. What is most important though is that you get work experience whilst you are a student- make use of the long holidays to try a couple of weeks in different environments in first year to help you choose and then in the summer of second year try and get a longer placement. Most companies that do grad schemes offer summer placements for current students and on top of that there are always more informal ways to get experience such as through volunteering with a charity.

    Hello!

It's great that you have picked a topic to study that you enjoy - and the good news is, there's plenty you can do with a degree in English Literature.

While an obvious route includes academia, including further study and teaching, it's not the only route - we have a great article over on Milkround that outlines a few ideas for careers after your degree in English Literature.

Best of luck for the future - let me know if you have any further questions!
