    Hi,

I am thinking of doing nursing at university.

but i just had afew questions, wondering if anyone doing or done nursing can help me out at all?

Do you do your placements at the hospitals etc and lectures in the same week? or do you have different weeks for both?

How many hours do you get on placement?

Do nursing student have time to be able to join the sports teams/societies at Uni?, because i love netball and would still want to be able to play at Uni.

    Thanks

It varies form uni to uni, some do placements and have uni at the same time, others do uni and placement in separate blocks. On placement you're expected to work full time hours (37.5) over the full spectrum of shifts, daytime, night time and weekends. You have to complete a minimum of 2300 hours practice and 2300 hours university to join the register as a nurse.

There is still time to socialise or take part in sports, however there will be times where you will have to prioritise your course over going out or playing sport.

It all depends on the university itself but my placements are in 2 month blocks and then i have blocks of theory in uni. Placement is 38.5 hours a week but it varies what shift pattern you could end up with really.
I m a 1st year and the only society I ve joined is the nursing one, as personally I dont think I could guarantee that I wouldnt let a team/other people down as some weeks I wouldn't have the time (or the energy) to meet them really. So if you want to join a netball team do it cautiously and make them aware you might not be able to make every match, you could see if your university offered sports on a no commit necessary basis as some sort of comprimise.
