Hi I am currently on target for an a* at gcse but not sure about taking a level maths. What would you predict an A* gcse student to achieve on A-levels.

Can get a U-A*. Depends on how much you are willing to work for your aspired grade.

I'd definately take it. I got an A* in maths IGCSE and just got a high A at AS.
Really AS is quite easy because core 1 and 2 are a dream.
The only thing to bear in mind with maths is that the jump from AS to A2 is quite large.
BUT MATHS IS GR8 TAKE MATHS.

I've seen people with A*s at GCSE go on to do not so well at A-level and others that have done well, so it'd be difficult to predict.
But yes, do it if it's in any way helpful for what you want to do in the future (a degree or a career or both), work hard for it and practice and you'll do well.

Definitely take it. I'm pretty sure you already know this, but taking maths opens up many, many opportunities in the future, and lots of uni courses ask for maths.
