Amino acids such as Proline can have multiple codons. If an amino acid has multiple codons, the codons can then be called degenerate codons. In other words, degeneracy of genetic code means that more than one codon occurs for each amino acid.
What's the advantage?
The advantage is that there is less harmful mutations since the sequence of bases already codes for a healthy amino acid
