So I did a little bit of research and read that people are more likely to employ you if you have experience...does that mean I have to first volunteer and work for free at some place and then get a job reference? Or how would you go about it?

Some places that you volunteer offer you a job in a couple of weeks. When I did work experience at a Oesteopathy last year, they offered me a job within the next few months. So maybe you can try that? Otherwise just going around shoving your CV in places such as shops etc
