Anybody suffer from depression? I mean actually suffering from diagnosed depression and receiving treatment for it - not just feeling a bit pissed off as well.

Without medication I'd spend every winter in a small huddle under my bed, unable to move, but no not at the moment, I got help for my disorder. You don't want to know people with depression, particularly clinical depression, they aren't rational, like in any mental illness.

I have suffered for years with it, but finally science caught up, lord be praised

And I was ever so brave and went to my doctor today. Aren't I great?!

Good for you, I couldn't I couldn't leave the house, sounds odd but I couldn't it was terrifying, too scary, but when you have it, a lot seems scary and it depends on your illness.

When I was depressed going to see a Dr was never an option. When your schizophrenic and depressed, you don't think you have one, when your bi polar, you can't see you have one. Takes a lot more than realising your a bit mad, to do something about it.

How long did this go on for? When you say you couldn't leave the house what would you feel when you went outside exactly? Im just interested as I have anxiety but I think its turned into depression again.

Have you been diagnosed with schizophrenia, depression and anxiety?

I think I might be suffering from moderate depression. Either that or I'm just a miserable git. Anyway, I'm planning on going to see a quack about it soon.

Good idea. Do you know of anything that triggered it?

I was shocked that a test at the Doctors came up with me having a mild anxiety disorder and moderate/severe depression. I've suffered with depression in the past, and it seems like I'll be up and down like a yo-yo for the rest of my life thanks to my hormonal inbalance! Plan is, meds for 3 months, and I'll be fine for the next 9 - 12 months, then I'll slowly start going downhill until I need the meds again :frown: Ah well, I've come to terms with it, and my best mates are doing everything they can to support me, I can't ask for better people around me, even if they did ask how I was every 20 seconds!!

Depression isn't just about feeling down, or miserable. It's a lot of other things too - anxiety is a major part of it, as is dramatic decrease/increase in appetite and increase/decrease in sleep. If you think you have a problem, it is best to speak to a doctor - the longer you leave it untreated if it is depression the harder it will be to crack it.

Pixie how do you know you have an hormonal imbalance?

Not one single issue - the combined weight of a lot of things. Being away from my home country for too long - no family/friends around, family issues, financial worries, work related issues.

That sounds grim :frown: Definitely go see your doctor, they'll be able to advise you on the best course of action. What kind of info/advice are you looking for from here, just so we can help you out a bit more

Wise move,do it, don't let yourself slide. And don't take no for an answer like I did, I had years of suffering because my particular type of depression wasn't recognised as valid, it was considered a psychological disorder and I had to have all the wrong treatments like counselling, x therapy etc. Thank God For NIMH et al, now it's physiological(like Bi polar and schizophrenia) Although the mechanisms are poorly understood, now I get it on the NHS. and there's a new treatment that involves melatonin injections coming along from the good old NIMH, it's nice to be catered for at frigin last:smile:

Anyway gl at the doctors. Depression is a bstrd. And for my money its worse than any physical illness I've ever had.

How do you know when you are depressed enough to go and see a doctor, or whether its just a rough patch? I mean, where do you draw the line?

I ask this to everyone in general not just the thread starter

I was diagnosed with mild depression but they won't do anything for me. I've seen 3 doctors.

I understand nobody here is a doctor so wasn't looking for any specific advise. I was just wondering if anybody else was/is in this boat. I was always brought up to belief that depression was no more than being "a bit pissed off" and that anybody that claimed to be depressed should "pulll themselves together and snap put of it" but it's a bit more than that. I have never felt so utterly defeated and bewildered in my life.

That's the thing. I'm not sure if I am depressed. I suspect I am though. From what I understand of it I'm showing a fair number of the signs/symptons of it.
