It seems to me that the Left is represented disproportionately in academic circles and I do not know why this is. There are of course exceptions to this, but so many of them only serve to reinforce this view because of how they have been treated by their peers - think of Roger Scruton's Salisbury Review and the leper status it gave him.

Why do you think this is? Do you even believe it is?

Many are, many aren't. As is the case for those on the Right.

    Academia doesn't mean teaching.

Maybe if you were smart enough to be in academia you would have known that. :teehee:

The Left does not have a monopoly on intelligence; lefties saying otherwise makes this self-evident.

Usually because the left keep promising free education and the like.

We all know they wouldn't hold up to that if they got into power.

They said academia is dominated by intelligent people, they didn't mention the left. That's just a result.

Most academics do in fact, teach.

This is a meaningless post. Their explanation for the Left's dominance in academia was that it is also dominated by intelligent people. The implication is crystal clear.

    Your evidence?

because the left deal with more impractical yet possible ideas. They are more idealistic in nature, rather than the right which focus on pragmatic economic results. Generally this means that left minded individuals are more drawn to academia. imo

The implication may have been crystal clear, but the fact remains. If anything your post was meaningless. Anyway I find there are complete prats on all sides - many lefties just want to feel superior without giving a toss. So there.

As far as I'm aware, I received a free education in the UK.

What 'fact'? You haven't really said anything.
