Polymers help! Urgent. Hydrolysis of PVA (PVOH) watch

My IR spec resembles fully hydrolysed poly(vinyl alcohol), the partially (88%) hydrolysed PVA IR spec has a big sharp peak around 1700cm-1, this peak isn't present in my spec.

So looks like I made fully hydrolysed PVA, as my sample has no peaks between 1650 and 2900.

I'm not sure why though. In fact I am not sure what hydrolysis has to to with this reaction. No water was used.

PVAc was obviously the starting polymer, and with NaOH and methanol under reflux it produced PVA.

Any help on this is appreciated as I am sick to death of it now.
