"To go over everything They say that time's supposed to heal ya, but I ain't done much healing"

Seriously though OP, you should just be yourself and ask them about their interests/hobbies/past addictions
(ok maybe not the last one but it'd be a unique way to explore if they procrastinate/have humor-actaully use that one!)

You could also open with a compliment (as long as you mean it) about their clothes/hair/eyes

Sit alongside her - so you don't look her in the eye - and chat about the weather, the view, your day, the lecture, whatever. Then ask her to join you for a coffee. Do this several times over a week or two before you actually ask her out on a date.

Hey, I'm a 'shy girl' so I'm in a good position to help you out.
Just say ' Hi', introduce yourself and ask her name (if you've not talked before, otherwise 'Hi' will do). Start by talking about something you both have in common e.g the same class or an assignment due in, just something to get a conversation going. From experience I know shy people long to make conversation, just don't have the courage to start it. Providing it goes well, this'll make her more willing to start a conversation with you next time and make friends.

There's this confident/popular guy at school. I can be super shy, so to get me to open up he was confident, made me feel comfortable and he was really funny. He made sure he wasn't too in your face with me. He also stuck up for me when people were being too intimidatingly loud around me (how sweet.) I've seen screenshots of him calling me endearing and sweet to his friends but that's another story...
and that's how you speak to a shy girl
