Fluoxetine made me numb and also lose control of my limbs with any alcohol. It's different for everyone though so not quite sure what the point is in asking. Just give it a go.

P.S. What other type of bulimia is there?

oh i know it's different for everyone but i just wanted some reassurance that they do actually work for some people. I'm particularly keen to know if they lessen binge eating (which the doctor said it might).

it is very effective, though like fleece some do not benefit (side effects and the like). Give it at least a month before considering stopping, usually side effects can be a problem in this "introduction period".

... Binge and purge it seems (?)

Obviously they work for some people, or they wouldn't exist or be prescribed

My doctor prescribed me fluoxetine antidepressants for "severe depression" and bulimia (the binge eating variety). I just wondered if anyone else had any experience of them? Did they help/make things worse/any side effects?
Just trying to get a real person's perspective on it!

About a year ago i was prescribed Fluoxetine for depression. I didn't have any side effects, but everyone is different.

It took a while to notice any difference & was only gradual subtle improvements. I also had therapy which was great.Personally i found the theapy more beneficial,as i could talk about everything.

What dosage are u taking ?
I found it ineffective for me, and tried a couple of other varieties before finding one that worked for me.
I also found it ineffective.

Well, it had a few negative effects in that I started having awful vivid nightmares, felt anxious and couldn't orgasm for about three months.

However, it affects everybody differently. I'm now on a different anti-depressant that that seems to be working a lot better (although I'm only on my fifth week).

Give it a try and make sure you keep your doctor informed. You should go back for a chat after 2/3 weeks.

as an antidepressant? It's never worked for me. I've been put on it at least five times, 20mg, 40mg, no effect.
for bulimia- HELL YEAH it works! Make sure you're on a 60mg dose, though.
I was an unstoppable bulimic, i had years of therapy, i couldn't go a day without bingeing like a mother****er. I couldn't go half a day. then i went on 60mg of fluoxetine (i didn't bother doing my dose gradually, i hit the ground running, as it were. I had stored up old scrips etc... It's inadvisable.) and IMMEDIATELY not only did my appetite go, but i was so in control. I'd be alone in the kitchen just after a tesco shop, and not want a thing. I stopped bingeing overnight.
Nausea and headaches help somewhat to reduce appetite, but by the time they go, you'll be out of the habit of bingeing, it'll be a lot easier. It really helps to control compulsive behaviour. My OCD is a lot less erratic, now, too.

I still feel like ****, but i'm a non-bingeing ****.
it never worked for me either, now im on citalopram which is working wonders
Like everything, it's trial and error. Fluoxetine may work for you, it may not.

Personally, it did nothing for me, but then it was probably never going to as every other antidepressant I've tried has induced mania (i'm bipolar).

I know someone for who it does work, though.

Give it a go.

I always thought taking anit-depressants made you dream more. I heard they were more 'extreme' as well.

In my experience, this rings true. I find my dreams are a lot more vivid.

My fluoextine worked fine at 20mg for about 2 years, then they upped the dosage when I showed signs of depression and anxiety again to 40mg. Still that way now.

Go for it- if it's not right for you, you'll know

Only side effect- Any alcohol + flueoxetine + me = crazy drunken mess!

is the alcohol and fluxo thing across the board or is it fluke that you and fleece have the same reaction?

Emotionally numb. In the end I decided I'd rather feel something than nothing, even if that something was crap.

Alcohol and antidepressants in general aren't a very good idea. I had the same thing on fluoxitine.

That's what worries me, I've heard a lot of people say that with most tye of anti-depressants.
