    (Cu(NH3)4)^2+

    the four ammonia molecule forms dative bonds with Cu^2+.
    the copper atom consist of 29 electrons which makes Cu+(28 electron) and Cu 2+ ( 27 electron) . when the electron is 27, there is one valence electron (2.8.8.8.1).

    If that's so would'nt there be 9 electrons in the last shell since each ammonia molecule donates 2 electron?
