Terrified to eat after almost chocking to death. Lost 2 and a half stone watch

    • Thread Starter

I was happily eating a pear a few weeks ago and then suddenly I bit off too big a piece and it got lodged in my throat. I had developed some bad eating habits over the past three years after having my son and would eat while texting/watching tv and ate too quickly.

As soon as I noticed it was lodged I tried desperately to swallow it and it was stuck. I couldn't breathe or speak or cry. The pain was intense and when I tried to cough I bately could. I drank some water to try and drop it down and the water came out through my nose! I then forced my finger back my throat and the pear piece came out. It was stuck for around 2 minutes but I was alone, no one around and no ability to call for help. I thought I would die a horrible death and truly thought I would die.

Since the incident I am too scared to eat anything except liquids. I know it seems daft but I can only manage to take the tiniest of bites and this takes me too long to eat enough food. I never knew how small and easily blocked the tube that brings us oxygen was!

Now I was 15 and a half stone and 5ft6 before I chocked which is obese and I'm now 13 stone although that was a week ago and I have lost since then so weight wise this is great. I looks pretty average weight now. But I can't carry on eating so little.

Do I need to see a doctor about this? Or will it naturally come back?

I will be continuing on a healthy diet even if I manage to get over this block. I want to keep off the weight ive lost.
