Hi, I have been on the combined pill for years without much problem.
I had one migraine (in my life) and the nurse was quick to take me off and put me on the mini pill due to stroke risk.
I have a lot of side effects and have tried different ones over a couple of years - went to GP but she refuses to prescribe combined pill due to stroke risk, despite history of single migraine only.
I am not aware of having any other risk factors - I dont smoke, Im not overweight, no strokes in family, normal blood pressure, dont drink!!

Is this a reasonable response based on the level of risk, or is it somewhat overreactive and another opinion could be warranted?
    What are the stroke risks?

I still wouldn't risk it, I don't think the frequency of migraines matters, just the fact that you have them. I had major problems on the mini pill, I was bleeding a LOT and became anaemic, so I went on the depo injection and have no problems, perhaps this or the implant is an option for you?
