I'm at Sussex university, studying economics and politics. I want to get more relevant work experience and therefore looking for a internship. I know I'm not a ucl or Oxford applicant so I want to know if anyone knows a realistic internship I could apply for, preferably in investment banking, finance and investment managing. Cheers

Most IBs do a 'spring week', where you spend 1-2 weeks learning about the industry, and networking with professionals. The main draw of these programmes is that there is an opportunity to convert this spring week into an offer (you do additional interviews) for a summer internship in 2nd year (if you're on a three year course).

Other than that, you'll be hard pressed to find any major internships at top companies available to first years. I'd probably contact smaller companies in London/elsewhere, to see if they would be alright with taking on an intern. Most internships are for penultimate years.

HSBC and the Bank of England do first year schemes I think.

Apart from that, yeah, contact small firms.
