Anyone looking to work in China must ignore all the hype and BS of the recruiters/agents (all commission-based liars who tell you anything to sign you up and get paid their $500) Pay attention to the law or you will find your butt parked in a Chinese jail for 30 days (Just recently happened to my neighbor from Lancaster). It cost him $2,000 to get out and then 10 days later he was deported without be allowed to finish his Chinese studies, all because he was talked into doing an internship and some part-time tutoring for extra money 3 hours a week. Now he has a felony conviction and will have a difficult time finding a good job that requires any background check. No employers hire "convicted felons" no matter what explanation you provide.
To be super clear, any foreigner working or interning in China MUST ARRIVE TO CHINA HOLDING A Z VISA. Anyone who tells you differently is a scam. There is no "grace or probationary period" and there were no "recent changes or amendments to the visa law". They have remained the same since 2013. If you have any doubts about this read the below links or call your own embassy or Chinese consulate for confirmation.
To be frank, once the agents and recruiters collect their $500 they don't care what happens to you and that is why they never give you their full legal name. Instead they give you some fabricated Chinglish name like "Mary Liu" or "Danny Chow" - impossible to trace, arrest, or sue.
