Okay so I think did some "intense" walking/running on Wednesday and it was my first time and my legs still hurt but I want to run again so how long until it goes away?

You can run again. It'll be sore the next day(s) if you're not used to it

DOMS (Delayed onset muscle soreness) will vary from person to person, it is worse the first time you exercise that muscle and can last up to a week in my experience. Legs being the worst, As said above you can run again.

One foot in front of the other. It clears after a few mins

if I'm not sure whether I'm recovered enough to run I go out and start, if I don't feel better after 3-5 minutes I go home but generally stiff muscles won't do you much damage to train on, just make sure you're not going too hard too soon if you're still super sore after several days

Yeah 48 hours after intense muscle conditioning is meant to be the worst. But running through muscle fatigue can increase the benefits of your workout. Honestly it might hurt for a minute. Then you won't notice it. Moving your muscles will help them repair more quickly and with more strength.
