How do you know if your underwears too small?

How do you know if your underwears too small?
As in if your "junk" just about fits into the garment but its like a tennis balls protruding out from the underwear..

When your balls are being squashed to the point that it's painful! Which of course isn't good for you!

I'd recommend getting some slightly bigger ones if you have pain, if not, be grateful for what you have lol.
