We got a house to rent this year and noticed it has cameras on each floor hallway and living room.

We were told that the cameras did not work but they have red lights on in it. We decided to cover them.

Anyway one of our roommates broke one and took it off the wall.

Next week comes and landlord and other guy come to “check fire alarms”, this was today, 2 months into renting the house. Weirdly first thing they notice is the camera missing and uncover rest of cameras.

Nothing in the contract said anything about cameras and were told they were not active. Anything we should do or does this seem weird?

very weird! I wouldnt put up with that. I'd get some advice it can't be legal to film you.

I'd call the police, that's really creepy. The cameras must have been on.
