Quartiles question

Hi, when working out, say, the upper quartile, which you calculate to be the 11.25th value, do I round down and put the 11th value of the data or round up and put the 12th value of the data?

My teacher once said you should always round up your answer but I cant remember whether that is for quartiles or not

Unfortunately there is more than one method of calculating the quartiles.

Two different methods I tried both give the 12th value - I presume there are 15 in total.

Best to check back with your teacher, or in the textbook you're using for their methodology.

Slight understatement there. See Mr M's post here: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?p=31269507
