Hey, like everyone else I'm having a premature midlife crisis over what universities I should go to. I want to study English Literature and have a busy social life on the side, I like parties, clubs and pubs but am also at heart a theatre geek.
I'm taking my A2s right now, predicted:
    Theatre Studies: A*
    English Language: A*
    English Literature: A
( i completely bombed my History AS level getting a C while all the others i got A)
My current choices are: 1. Durham, 2. St Andrews, 3. UCL, 4. Bristol, 5. Birmingham
Though I'm still not sure if they are all the right choices for me. Like St. Andrews is meant to be very small and UCL has a really different social life to outer London universities?? Another I'm also considering is York ^_^

    Hi there,

Thanks for your interest in York.

We have a lively social scene here in York, both on campus and in the city. There are lots of student societies to get involved in, for example the Theatregoers Society and the English PEN Society plus loads of sports clubs - you can find a full list of our societies here: http://www.yusu.org/activities/societies/directory

With regards to going out in the city of York, there are loads of fantastic bars and pubs - there's a pub for every day of the year! The city is just a short bus ride (or bike ride or walk) from campus and buses run throughout the night back to campus. Admittedly, we don't have many big clubs in York but Leeds/Sheffield are just a short train ride away and there are organised trips from campus to club-nights in Leeds.

We have two theatre venues in the city centre, the York Theatre Royal and the Grand Opera House, and also smaller venues including the Joseph Rowntree Theatre. The Department of Theatre, Film and Television also put on productions in the state-of-the-art theatre facilities on campus.

If you have any specific questions about student life at York, or questions about the English Lit course then please don't hesitate to contact us.

    Thanks,

    Helen
