    Sodium Carbonate exists in hydrated form, Na2Co3 . XH2O in the solid state.
    3.5g of a sodium carbonate sample was dissolved in water and the volume is made up to 250cm3
    25cm3 of this solution was titrated against 0.1 mol dm-3 HCl and 24.5cm3 of the acid was required
    Calculate the value of X given the equation
    Na2Co3 + 2HCl -----> 2NaCl + CO2 + H2O

    I have no idea where to start. Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Start by calculating the moles of acid required to neutralise this portion of the carbonate solution.

    Then use the equation to find the moles of carbonate equivalent to the moles of acid.

    Then scale up to the whole volume of carbonate solution.

    Now yo know the moles you can work out the mass of the anhydrous sodium carbonate.

    With this you can find the mass of water and hence the moles of water.

    You now have a mole ratio of carbonate to water. If carbonate = 1 them moles of water = x
