Maths Problem

A 850g box of breakfast cereal costs £3.49
Work out the cost per 100g.
Give your answer in pence to the nearest penny.

so 850 / 3.49 which is 243.5530086
then
243.5530086 x 100 is 24355.30086
so then the answer should be 24355p but that makes no sense.....

Almost, except you don't divide weight by price, rather the other way around, as you're looking for how the price is shared for each gram.

I don't think I make sense...

Divide the price, i.e. £3.49 by 850 to get an answer. Multiply this by 100.

£3.49 is 349p for 850g
for 100g, you need to divide 850 by 8.5. You then need to reduce 349 by the same amount, so you get 349 divided by 8.5 which is 41.059p per 100g, or 41p to the nearest penny.
