I got below average GCSEs but achieved 4As in my first year of A-levels

For GCSEs I got
Maths A
Core Science A
Sociology A
English Language B
English Literature C
DT E
Media E
Religion E

For A-levels
I went crazy for these grades...
Maths A
Economics A
Computing A
Psychology A

Is there a possibility of still getting into the University's that I applied to?
Southampton, St Andrews, Durham, Bath and Birmingham

Very possible. Your referee should include a section in your reference that includes something along the lines of you maturing as a student and taking A-Levels as a fresh start.
Though the admissions tutors should be able to spot the impovement anyway.

Best of luck.
