mouth/ lip injury

i was in the pub last night minding my own business and a random guy (who was about 40, never met before) came over, grabbed my collar and nutted me in the face. i passed out cold for at least 5 seconds and awoke in a daze with blood everywhere. anyhow, just below my bottom lip is completely torn (i vaguely remember spitting out a thick bit of blood which im guessing was the flesh) i could practically stick my tongue through my gum and it almost come out the other side ie my face :frown: i had to have 5 stiches. the top lip is also majorly cut and swollen but didnt need stiches. likewise there are about 4 other cuts in my mouth. my whole mouth is in absolute agony atm, and it looks very very bad. nothing like this has ever happened to me before, im not a scrapper in any way, and shy away from any confrontation but im scared my face is gonna be screwed up. obviously the swelling will go down eventually but im still gonna have that scar at the bottom of my lip. also, will the swelling go down completely? or am i gonna have huge swollen lips forvever ? seriously, i cant even look at myself in the mirror.
im in a bad way about it :frown: i did nothing to deserve what happened.
but on the bright side, least none of my teeth were knocked out (feels like theyre gonna fall out though) and my nose wasnt broken

:frown:

Poor you!

Dont worry Im sure the swelling will go down with time, obviously I cant say if you'll have a scar as it depends on the actual injury.

At least you still have your teeth! I can imagine the hassle and cost that would have been if you'd have lost any!

I hope you got the bastard arrested! What a ******

Just wear them proudly as battle scars, and tell people you fought off several would be muggers and won.

The swelling should go down completely in a couple of days; just make sure that your hygiene is good so there's no risk of infection. There may be scarring, but our bodies are generally good at healing and you're unlikely to end up with anything too noticeable. I'm slightly concerned that you lost consciousness and felt dazed afterwards though. This suggests concussion and there's a risk of secondary injury through compression. So if you start feeling any increased head pain, get to A&E fast. Unlikely though!

Hopefully you wont get any bad scars, remember the mouth is the fastest healing place in the body!!! I have a scar on my lip, you cant even properly tell unless i told you or you lookd really closely, which goes a little bit throught the bottom of my lip, when it got cut thou it lookd much worse, bcoz it was from fighting when i was younger, and it split whr my lip hit my teeth. Any cuts inside your mouth will heal, the ones on the outside, in time will go, shudnt take to long, but if there is bad scaring use bio oil or something with vitamin E to smooth them out!

Your mouth heals very quickly, so don't worry. If you want to help reduce the swelling in your lips, wrap up a few ice cubes/frozen peas in a teatowel and gently press it on your mouth (this looks really silly so you might not want to do it if anyone else is around!)
