there is no easiest option! they're all at almost the same level. If you are a kind of person who can memorize easily I suggest Option E (I've enjoyed it). If you take Bio HL I suggest Environmental chemistry option D. If you take Physics HL then I suggest fuels and energy:smile: medicine and Drugs I'd stay away from because it's too long.

I'm doing the Fuels and Energy and the Environmental Chemistry and I can tell you that the former was easy and simple, whilst the latter was interesting..smog

Keep in mind these things vary depending on the person, so flick through a study guide and see what interests you (and/or what you've already learnt in Bio/Physics if you're doing one of them).

You should stick with HL Organic chem. It is short and easy: if you can grasp the concepts there is practically nothing to learn by heart. They will ask you to write mechanisms, fine, as long as you understand how chemistry operates you can write them without even studying.

she is sticking with further organic. But we need 2 options for HL don't we?

Reply 5

Environmental chemistry and fuels and energy are the easiest options. do them... very easy to understand and score well in the exams.

I will be doing Modern Analytical Chemistry and Human Biochemistry, once I have finish the HL core, but Human biochemistry should be easy because I do bio and in bio we have already done "The chemistry of life", human physiology, and we will be doing further human physiology, so that one should be a bit of revision and a bit of new stuff. Then analytical option could be annoying I don't know but we are going on an excursion to a Shell refinery near by which should be fun.

Hey guys thanx for your help. I think I'm going to stick with fuels and energy as one of the options. But for the other one , I'm still undecided:confused:

you didn't really answer my question:p: are you taking Bio or Physics HL?

Reply 9

We did the Environmental option..its easy but its mostly all memorization..our second option is modern analytical chem..havent done much but it seems kind of boring

No, it is very useful to know about analytical methods. Besides it is a lot more about practice than memorizing things. The option although is only for HL-classes. Mine is combined so I ended up studying other options because I simply refused to do the medicines and drugs option, which is appalling.

Go for Drugs and Medicine, not only is it really interesing but having done Organic chemistry will also help you in it so you'll kind of revise organic at the same time as doing the option.

Ok, I am not here to diss your argumentation, but M&D has almost nothing to do with real organic chemistry. It is mostly a twisted chapter of biology, learning about all sorts of diseases and drugs in a QUALITATIVE manner. Seriously, do the organic HL option, it will teach you so much more about the subject operates.

I think he's done that one already and is now looking for the second option.
And I remember going over organic quite a bit when I did Drugs and Medicine, sure, there are bits that are qualitative (which works well with the "easy" requirement from his post) but not all of it is.

you didn't really answer my question:p: are you taking Bio or Physics HL?

I'm taking Ph HL

I decided to do biochem and medicine and drugs. Yes both of them are really length but the questions for these options in p3, especially for medicine and drugs, are very easy (especially if you look at the markscheme and how simple the answers are). The only problem is that it's all memorization. SO if you are having your exams this May, I'd do sumthing else. But if your exams are next year or in November, I highly suggest you do the medicine and drugs b/c you really don't need to think to answer the question, just regurgitate information.

damn! lol I washoping you'd say biop HL cuz there are alot more option for that:p: if you can do option E then:smile: it's very straight foward and if you took chem IGCSEs it's pretty much the same material with additional stuff:smile: well the blast furnace and what not is the same material;yes;

my teacher told us medicine and drugs is just too long to learn alone:eek: so I'd suggest to keep away from it:p:

Do you guys study the options on ur own? I mean at your schools is it self taught? Or does the teacher teach it?

Reply 18

just regurgitate information.

But as a person what are you going to learn? It is indeed sad that people just regurgitate stuff instead of actually understanding the material that they are studying. Fair enough, if you hate chemistry I do understand you, but come on, you are in Diploma, you are supposed to think critically. Regurgitating stuff was something I used to do in grade eight.

well we read the syllabus and material in class, and my teacher tried to explain as much of it as possible. But really there's nothing to explain in options D and E. You just have to memorize the info and recall it in the test:smile: other options I assume would need some form of explaining:smile:
