New Medlock House

Hey can anyone who is currently living in medlock house tell me everything I need to know about it, such as parking cost and is broadband included? And whats the broadband price? I here you also get a free tv in your room with license included? I have already reserved my place in wedlock for next year, I need secure parking though

when i went to look around i think the man said the internet was something like 5 pounds a week? not sure though! and you don't get a tv with a tv license in your room, it's in the kitchen/living area bit x

Hey,

Just got my deposit down. I'm living with a guy called Justin, Zoe and eh I think he said Claire. I'm on the top floor, I have also got parking arranged for around £709 for the year.

Yeah I was a bit silly to think I would have a free tv in my room, the tv I am to get in my room will need a separate license, and broadband is £5 to £8 per week depending on speed; frankly thats a ****ing rip off, I'm not at all happy with UNITE. Its silly things you have to pay for. I hope I can get along with my roomates

Thanks for your replyy

£709 for parking!? Eeeeek...and to think I was considering New Medlock Hs...not at that price!

Starbuck. Parking spaces in manchester, single owned parking space, I know some on oxford road which are 20,000 a year. Parking is like 3-4 quid per day, so times that by your week, by your month by your year is around 800, so new medlock called it 709, big spaces and secure spaces with gate

Maybe, but at other places it's only £200 and seeing as I'm on a strict budget I know which one I'd go for!
Don't live with UNITE. Seriously, there are so many hidden charges, such as the internet costing £250 for ther year (and it's a one-off payment).

mate of mine in there says the internet is painfully slow and a total ripoff

This place is one of the biggest rip offs. Avoid at all cost, it really is not worth the money.

really medlock is a rip off? I've heard alright things about it. I 'm pretty glad I'm not going to medlock now, I've applied for picadilly point and was gonna swap today for new medlock. but now I'm glad I didn't.
My boyfriend persaded me to go for the brand new accomodation and that's what I'm doing : nice brand new double bed ensuite deluxe room. and it works out cheaper than medlock. it's still with unite though :frown::

Making me regret choosing new medlock now. Whats oxford court like? And what is really that bad about new medlock, I hear the internet is only 2.99 a week for broadband, tv licenses included. Its the location though, its right next to all saints, and john dalton campus

The broadband connection at new medlock at least consists of a 2mbps connection shared with the entire complex. My mate used to get connection speeds of around 25kbps as a result. This is worse than 56k dialup.

mr1 dont regret it. just know what ur entitled to and don't let UNITE scam you.
also i honestly wouldn't pay for the internet. I'm not going to for that price. everyone thinks it's essential but it's not if its 25kbps.
I'd rather use uni internet or get a wireless card and pay with my mobile.

also i'm going with unite, im living at picccadilly point.
I live in medlock.

You are frankly stupid to be paying daft money like that for parking, you will regret parking in there once students start to come in overnight off there barnets jumping on your bonnet! BTW there is free parking they offer round the side...bet you didn't know that!

Stupid to live at Piccadilly Point or even Mill point as they are close to nothing but the train station. Medlock has various pubs, clubs, bars, bowling, pool -snooker, cheap gyms, around the corner from deansgate locks and the Amc cinema. Not far from the oxford road train station! You are at the heart of student living in Manchester!

Internet speeds depend on the times etc peak-off peak.
For WiFi students are bringing there own bridges for this luxory but Unite do offer one called studentcom which in most rooms you hardly get a signal. Recently they have announced a refereshed version for september which will be quicker....:s-smilie:

As for free TV's with licensing forget it, buy your own and depending on where you put it you will have to purchase a separate TV licence for each room and the communal.

You have just been Whipped!

New medlock house is by far the ****test halls. I have live next to 8 boys with a thin wall between my room and their communal area. I can hear every word. It is impossible to sleep at all let alone study they play music so loud my room ****ing shakes. it is a rip off the facilities are so basic and **** compared to other halls. The workers are ignorant ass holes who do nothing. I complained about next door as did other people and they told us they can't do anything about it I had to stay at friends houses to just get some ****ing sleep. Nearly everyone is an international student with poor English so there is no socialisation at all overall you would be making a mistake living here
hi
needing to book hall for sept because live to near t get in uni halls and wanted social life! I am a britsh uk student and the guys on reception told me that it is mainly british students in new medock and more international in pakway gate is this no right?? so difficult choosing Hall what would you recommend:smile:?

Victoria halls are great. There are more British in here then there are in park way gate but still loads of foreign students. It's more social in other halls. If you do come here make sure they put you in wig the right people I'm a girl living with 2 Chinese boys who don't speak so I got shafted don't let it happen to you and ensure your not next door to people who are loud 24/7 I find it so hard to study and the front desk do nothing about it
